Theory and Practical


Candidates must be 16 or over, have a good understanding of the
English language, and be medically fit.
6160-03 pre-requisite required. Can work in all types of confined spaces as an entrant and carry out rescue duties.

Course Outline

This qualification is for a person working as part of the rescue and recovery team. Preparing to carry out emergency procedures, entering and exiting the confined space safely, use of emergency equipment, handling of casualties and extraction procedures.

Course Aims and Objectives

The aim of this unit is to follow the national occupational standard required for directing emergency rescue and recovery of casualties from a confined space.

The qualification is applicable for both water and non-water and will include tasks associated with rescue and recovery of casualties from confined spaces such as sewer treatment processes, tunnelling, construction, power, drainage and sewer systems, or where a confined space is subject to the specified risk.

Course Content

• Undertake safety check before entry into the confined space
• Make safe entry and exit into/from the confined space
• Safe use of all tools and equipment
• Follow all procedures and work safely as a rescue team member
• Understand the protocols in working as part of the rescue team
