Theory and Practical
Candidates must be 16 or over, have a good understanding of the
English language, and be medically fit.
6160-03 & 6160-08 pre-requisites are required. Can act as entry controller (6160-04) or supervisor (6160-05) for all types of confined space

This qualification is for persons responsible for directing the activities of a rescue and recovery team in a confined space. This could include a rescue team leader, entry controller or supervisor responsible for rescue and recovery of casualties, planning, preparing and initiating emergency operations, organising and mobilising rescue teams and monitoring their activities, recording of incidents and compilation or reports where required.
Course Aims and Objectives
The aim of this unit is to follow the national occupational standard required for directing emergency rescue and recovery of casualties from a confined space.
The qualification is applicable for both water and non-water and will include the direction of the rescue and recovery of team undertaking extraction of casualties from the confined space, including all emergency procedures.
• Plan and prepare emergency teams and all associated operations
• Initiate rescue teams and control processes for entry and exit into the confined space
• Maintain standards and monitor procedures for the rescue team members
• Understand the principles of the rescue team leader and all associated duties, including equipment, documentation, and following the required legislation.
